Everything Old

“What do you remember?”
Alice opens her notebook to a fresh page. Stares at the clock. “Tell me everything,” she says. “Don’t worry about whether or not you think it’s important – just say what you see.”
She writes Scene One at the top of the page, underlines it twice.
Jackson nestles his upper body into the gym mat-thin mattress. The cot’s hinges squeak; it wouldn’t be long – days, a week, maybe – before the bolts would have to be replaced to keep it from crashing to the floor. Alice immediately starts to calculate how much rice she would need in order to make the deal…
